Hotel Prices Rise

The cost of a hotel room rose by 2 percent in 2010, info from a new survey has disclosed. The Hotel Price Index ( HPI ), showed clearly that costs rose by 1 percent in South America and the Caribbean and dropped by 2 percent in the East.

The average was turbo-charged by a 2 percent rise in North America. Costs for hotel rooms in Europe stayed flat last year, compared to 2009 and 2008, when costs slid for 7 consecutive quarters. The median cost of a room on the continent is now one percent less than it was in 2004, when the HPI was launched, and is twenty percent lower than when the average Western european price peaked in quarter 2 in 2007. Tenerife

One of my favourite places for a good value holiday is Tenerife. Here is my brief guide to Tenerife:

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands is popular with tens of thousands of British and German holiday makers each year who make the most of the fabulous weather, beaches and nightlife. Spanish tourists flock here too, and in addition to the beach resorts, the island is rich with natural attractions including forests, desert, mountains, rugged coastline and volcanoes. Tenerife is also a favourite with scuba divers and the waters are suitable all year round. Surfing and other water sports are available in the south of the island in particular.

The main cites include the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife to the north of the island, Costa Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz (home to the Loro Parque Zoo), La Laguna (a UNESCO World Heritage site), and the beach resorts of Los Gigantes and Las Americas Visitors also head to the Tenerife Zoo Monkey Park and to see the volcanic rock formations at Parque Nacional Las Canadas del Teide. El Tiede is the highest mountain in Spain and is a demanding hike for even the most experienced. There is a cable car too and the summit offers some amazing views across the island. Playa Americas beach is black volcanic sand so may be less busy than Los Cristianos, which is imported yellow sand. [Read more...]

The Low Wood Hotel, Windermere

One of my favourite ever places is the Low Wood hotel in Windermere in the Lake District in the North of England. It;s setting is fantastic (although the Lakes has been voted something like the second most beautiful place in the world or something!) as it’s right on the banks of the Lake. If you ever go ask for a lake view room and you wont be disappointed with the morning view come rain or shine! [Read more...]
